Editing LibraryCommons
Use the content editor to add and update pages, questions, resources, and library listings. Changes are saved as drafts for review before they appear on the public site.
Before you begin
- Search for an existing page or resource before creating a new one.
- Keep the title and address of an existing page unless a maintainer has agreed to change them. Old links may still point to it.
- Pages marked as original LibraryOn content and archived files are preserved. Changes to them need maintainer review.
- Your new images and documents belong in the community uploads area. Do not replace files in the archived uploads area.
Add or update a page
Choose Editorial Content and open a page, or choose New Page to start one. Enter a clear title and a site path such as /stories/reading-together. Choose the page type that best matches the content. Add a short summary and write the page in the Content editor.
Use headings in order: the page title is the main heading, section headings are the next level, and smaller headings sit underneath them. This helps people scan the page and use assistive technology.
For a new image, choose Collection Image or the image control. Write alternative text that explains the important information in the image. Add a caption or credit when needed. Use Full for a lead image, Inset for a smaller image within the article, or a float when the image belongs beside nearby text.
Special collection controls
The + / Add Component menu includes collection images, carousels, accordions, editorial asides, and book recommendations. Their outer fields set the title, image, layout, and accessible label. Some components also contain a Markdown field for the items inside them.
In a carousel, each slide contains one image or quote and any notes that belong to it. In a hotspot carousel, add hotspot notes inside the slide for the image they describe; marker positions are percentages from the left and top of the image. In an accordion, each accordion-item has a title and its own content. Book recommendations keep each cover, title, author, year, and description together in one recommendation-item.
Use the editor’s existing examples as a pattern. Keep related notes and images inside their component, and do not move a slide’s notes into a neighbouring slide. If you are unsure about a complex block, save it as a draft and ask for review before publishing.
Questions, resources, and links
Add shared questions under Frequently Asked Questions, then select them on the page. Do not copy their answers into the page body. Add a resource once, give it a name that says what it contains, and connect it to the relevant page or conference session. The resource page will show where it is used.
For a recording, include the session name in the title. For a document, say what it is and which programme or round it belongs to. Add a short description when a title alone does not explain why the item is useful. Keep credits and rights information when supplied.
Menus and site text
Site Settings contains the main menu, footer links, redirects, page labels, and other template text. Keep link labels short and clear. Check that a destination works before saving a menu change.
Review and publishing
Save your work as a draft. The draft is sent for review; a maintainer checks the content and the automated site checks before merging it. If changes are requested, edit the draft rather than starting a second copy.
